Shrader & Associates Investigates SimplyThick Recall Following FDA Warnings

Houston, TX (PRWEB) June 11, 2011

On May 20, 2011, the FDA issued an official warning stating that the "FDA Warns Not to Feed SimplyThick to Premature Infants". This official warning came before an FDA inspection of the food processing plant in Stone Mountain, Georgia where the product is manufactured. During this inspection, it was discovered that the plant did not perform a process required to kill harmful bacteria within the product. This warning was the official start of a still-ongoing investigation in which the bacterial contamination disease necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) was discovered in 15 infants who were given the product. Two of the infants have died at this time. Further instances of necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) may have occurred in a number of other yet to be reported cases. For more information on this product recall, please contact Shrader & Associates at 888-637-6236 or visit http://www.shraderlaw.com.

On June 5, 2011, two weeks after the FDA warning http://www.fda.gov/NewsEvents/newsroom/PressAnnouncements/ucm256253.htm was issued, Simply Thick, LLC, announced the voluntary recall of products that were manufactured on their behalf by Thermo Pac, LLC at the food processing plant located in Stone Mountain, Georgia. At this time, Simply Thick, LLC has voluntarily recalled only products made at the Stone Mountain, Georgia food processing plant. Shrader & Associates a national law firm specializing in product recalls and product liability provides the most recent recall information to clients and other interested persons at http://www.shraderlaw.com/simplythick-recall-advisory.

FDA press release with Simply Thick, LLC recall product information may be found at http://www.fda.gov/Safety/Recalls/ucm257841.htm

While these are, at the current time, the only product lots known to be affected, future recalls are always possible and it is imperative that any person who has purchased this product use extreme caution with it, and keep a close watch for any SimplyThick side effects. The FDA investigation is still ongoing, and the total number of affected products is yet unknown. The number of infants harmed or killed is likewise unknown at this time.

Necrotizing Enterocolitis (NEC)

The bacterial contamination disease known as necrotizing enterocolitis causes the tissue in the intestines to become inflamed, and then die as a result of the extreme inflammation. In a premature infant, whose defenses are still developing, necrotizing enterocolitis can cause severe illness and death, as in the two dead infants discovered thus far in the FDA investigation. When products such as SimplyThick are manufactured, very rigid safety standards, set in place by the FDA, must be strictly observed to avoid any type of bacterial contamination. There is more information from Shrader & Associates about necrotizing enterocolitis at http://www.shraderlaw.com/necrotizing-enterocolitis-simplythick-side-effect.

Shrader & Associates, LLP fights for the rights of families who have been affected by necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC). Because safety standards were not followed, as in the case of the Simply Thick recall, thousands of infants could potentially be affected. Any person who needs to learn more about the SimplyThick recall, or necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) side effects is urged to contact the attorneys of Shrader & Associates who specialize in product liability and product recalls at 888-637-6236, or visits us on the web at http://www.shraderlaw.com/simplythick-recall-advisory for help with their case.

Attorneys at Shrader & Associates Investigating Simply Thick Recall?s Connection to Necrotizing Enterocolitis (NEC)

Houston, TX (PRWEB) June 22, 2011

The recall follows FDA reports of premature infants developing NEC after ingesting Simply Thick products.

On June 4, 2011 Simply Thick, LCC announced a recall of SimplyThick? thickening gel products that were manufactured at Thermo Pac, LLC?s food processing plant in Stone Mountain, Georgia. The recall occurred after the company was advised by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of Thermo Pac?s failure to file for a routine process that ensures that harmful bacteria are destroyed during the manufacturing process. More info at http://www.shraderlaw.com/simplythick-recall-advisory.

Shrader & Associates, a leading national law firm with experience in product recall cases, has its attorneys working tirelessly to investigate the details of the recall, which affects all Simply Thick products manufactured at the Stone Mountain plant since June 1, 2009.

"It is very important that families with infants who are using this product stop doing so immediately,? said attorney Justin Shrader. ?Given the vulnerability of the users of this product, families deserve to feel 100% safe.?

Simply Thick's recall connection to necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) stems from an FDA report that links at least 15 premature infants who had developed the life-threatening condition after ingesting milk thickened with Simply Thick products. NEC is a potentially fatal disorder that causes the inflammation and death of intestinal tissue. Premature infants with NEC are subject to a variety of symptoms including body temperature issues, breathing problems, diarrhea or bloody stools, discoloration of the belly, distended abdomen, green vomit, lethargy, and a slower heart rate.

Prior to issuing the recall, Simply Thick advised consumers and medical professionals to follow the FDA?s warning by stopping the use of Simply Thick thickening products in the feeding of infants born prematurely before 37 weeks gestation who are currently receiving hospital care or have been discharged from a medical facility within the past 30 days. This advisory, issued in May, applies to all Simply Thick products, including those not affected by the current recall.

Attorneys at Shrader & Associates are continuing to investigate Simply Thick and this recall on behalf of clients whose loved ones have died or have developed NEC and have required surgical treatments on their intestines following the consumption of Simply Thick.

?Right now, families are scared about the damage this product has done to their infants,? said Justin Shrader. ?These children have done nothing to deserve the pain that they are having to endure.?

Lawyers on the Product Recall Team at Shrader & Associates Continue Their Investigation Into the Bacterial Contamination at the Simply Thick, LLC Manufacturing Plant

Houston, TX (PRWEB) June 30, 2011

A series of SimplyThick? thickening gel products that were manufactured at Thermo Pac, LLC?s food processing plant in Stone Mountain, Georgia were the subject of a voluntary recall after the company was advised by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of Thermo Pac?s failure to file for a scheduled process designed to make sure harmful bacteria are destroyed during the manufacturing process. The Simply Thick recall was first publicized in this May FDA report.

Shrader & Associates believes that Simply Thick is conducting its own investigation in an attempt to limit their liability with respect to children who are sick. One source tells Shrader & Associates that representatives from Simply Thick are calling consumers who have purchased the product asking if their children are healthy and if not, what symptoms the children do have. These representatives are also asking if these consumers are seeking legal advice or if they have hired an attorney. ?These families are under no obligation to answer questions or even speak with representatives of SimplyThick?,? said Ross Stomel, the Partner at Shrader & Associates who is heading up the Product Recall Team. ?This company is making healthy kids sick and sick kids even sicker.?

Simply Thick is a brand name of a thickening agent used to assist people, especially young children, with swallowing difficulties. Simply Thick used for infants and premature babies is being mixed with breast milk or formula. However, Simply Thick is also used by families with children who have swallowing difficulty at varying ages. The independent investigation that Shrader & Associates has been conducting is showing that children as old as 5 years of age have developed issues similar to those of infants and premature babies while on a feeding regimen that included Simply Thick.

The Product Recall Team at Shrader & Associates strongly urges anyone still using Simply Thick to discontinue use of the product and contact their physician immediately. The current situation involving Simply Thick is resulting in necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) in babies. However, it is becoming apparent that the bacterial contaminants are affecting older children as well. Further, parents and health care providers are urged to contact the FDA?s MedWatch and Safety Information and Adverse Event Reporting program should they become aware of any necrotizing enterocolitis symptoms or Simply Thick side effects.

If your child, or a child you know has been diagnosed with necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), has had surgery to repair damage to their intestines or colon, has had a bowel resection, has had reoccurring bacterial infections in their abdomen or gastrointestinal tract, has experienced any extreme bowel problems, or other symptoms that can be found at http://www.shraderlaw.com/simplythick-lawsuit-consultation/ please seek legal advice immediately.

Choosing a lawyer is a personal decision and should not be taken lightly. The litigation process is lengthy and sometimes overwhelming. Shrader & Associates treats each client as an individual and is committed to helping families affected by Simply Thick.
