McKinney Car Dealer Lives on the Roof to Help Raise Awareness of Heat Safety

Mckinney, TX (PRWEB) July 27, 2010

Chris Godwin, Owner at Nissan of McKinney and McKinney Buick GMC http://mckinneybuickgmc.com/index.htm has begun living on the roof of his dealership. This week Chris will be living, working and broadcasting live via Webcam from the rooftop at 3800 S. HWY 75 - 24 hours a day for until at least Saturday night. On Monday, despite a thunderstorm Chris remained on the roof as planned. He?s not coming down! And he?ll be using the power of the Internet and the dealership?s considerable Web presence to help educate McKinney-area residents on the dangers inherent in the hot summer months.

Initially conceived by Chris to support a sales challenge he made to his staff at both stores, the dangers posed by this environment quickly took center stage. Event planners took precautionary measures to insure his health. But Godwin also saw the potential to work with McKinney and local community organizations to get the word out about extreme heat and how to prevent its sometimes disastrous consequences.

?Sure, this started out as a challenge to motivate my staff,? Godwin concedes, ?but as long as I?m stuck on the roof, I?d like to do some good while we are trying to do well. For many McKinney area residents, the true challenge is how to prevent tragedy during the triple digit temperatures we face. And for some, that reality even includes how to pay for the large utility bills that come with the Texas heat.?

?Every year, more people die in the US from extreme heat exposure than from hurricanes, lightening, tornadoes, floods and earthquakes combined,? Godwin notes. ?If we can bring attention to serious issues, have a little fun and do a little business at the same time, it?s a win-win for everybody.?

Representatives from several McKinney partner organizations will brave the temperatures on the roof this week to speak to the live audience about subjects ranging from heat stroke and skin cancer prevention to pool safety to the perils of leaving pets and children in automobiles in the Texas heat. And every day at 3pm Chris will host local youth sports teams for ?The Daily Douse?. They will be throwing water balloons up to the roof to cool Chris down.

Now More Than Ever, Helping Patients Reach Their Goals Can Help You Reach Yours

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) November 13, 2011

Cosmetic procedures such as whitening don?t always enjoy the most stellar reputation in the dental industry. Many people?and this includes many practice owners?conjure images of wealthy Hollywood elites or spoiled housewives types when you mention cosmetic whitening. Hopefully you don?t share in this mindset. Because in reality, cosmetic whitening is one of the most simple, most cost effective and most dramatic ways you can help improve the lives of your patients. And in doing so, it can help you reach many of the practice growth goals you?ve established for yourself.

?Just as braces have become a symbol of status among today?s youth, white, healthy looking teeth convey a similar standing among the adult population,? says Brad Stevens of Atlanta based Whiter Image. ?Research bears this out. A survey by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD) reveals that 99.7% of the adult population believe a smile is ?an important social asset.? We couldn?t agree more. This is why we believe that any successful whitening products must be effective and affordable.?

Digging a little deeper reveals tangible reasons why smiles matter.

According to research from Reuters and the Washington Post, more than one billion dollars were spent on online dating in 2010. Which in-and-of itself is impressive. But when you couple that with AACD research that shows that 96% of adults believe an attractive smile makes a person more appealing to members of the opposite sex, it offers you a glimpse of what could be.

?People are willing to pay to find companionship, and one of the most universally agreed upon indicators of beauty and attractiveness is the smile. Cosmetic whitening presents you with the opportunity to help your patients improve their odds in what has become a billion dollar bazaar of online love. And remember, this is only the online component to dating. Dating or not, everyone enjoys the benefits of a beautiful smile,? said Stevens.

While helping people find their perfect match is an obvious benefit to teeth whitening, there is another, more pragmatic benefit people can gain from whitening.

?The AACD study also revealed that 74% of adults feel an unattractive smile can hurt a person?s chances for career success,? said Stevens. ?At a time when so many Americans are switching careers, job hunting or even looking to reenter the job market, it?s obvious that the practice that offers an affordable and easy whitening option has the opportunity to not only better serve their patient base, but help empower people with a genuine sense of confidence. In such a competitive job market, this self-assurance can mean a world of difference.?

Whiter Image is best known for their duo of portable whitening products. The Chic-Flic Teeth Whitening & Lip Gloss Plumper Pen, an on-the-go solution that delivers a premium strength whitening formula with anywhere convenience, and the Whiter Image Teeth Whitening Pen is a unisex offering that delivers a proprietary teeth whitening formulation designed to meet the needs to the on-the-run consumer.

?Whether they?re tucked away for a first date, or packed in your briefcase for a pre-interview whitening, both of these products deliver a whitening procedure that will help people look better and feel more confident,? added Stevens. ?And in doing so, they can help a practice feel great about the service they?re providing for their patient while growing their bottom line.?

The CareGiver Partnership Offers Urge Incontinence Help as FDA Approves Gel for Overactive Bladder

Neenah, Wis. (PRWEB) December 15, 2011

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved a topical gel to treat overactive bladder, according to Cole Petrochko, associate staff writer for MedPage Today. The gel is a formulation of oxybutynin 3% and it will be used to treat symptoms of urge incontinence. Urge incontinence is the frequent, sudden urge to urinate, says Lynn Wilson, Co-Founder of The CareGiver Partnership.

?Also known as overactive or oversensitive bladder, urge incontinence involves loss of control over the bladder, especially while sleeping, drinking or hearing running water,? says Lynn Wilson, Co-Founder of The CareGiver Partnership. ?Urge incontinence symptoms include feeling a need to urinate more than seven times per day or two times per night.?

Urge incontinence generally has an underlying medical cause. Causes may be a urinary infection in the bladder or kidneys, stroke, diseases of the nervous system, tumors or cancer, interstitial cystitis, inflamed prostate, or surgery. Wilson says it?s important a senior has a medical evaluation to understand the type and cause, then talks with a doctor about treatment options, which may include behavioral techniques, pelvic floor muscle exercises, medications or surgery.

Wilson shares the following tips to help control the urge to urinate, courtesy of the American Geriatric Society Foundation for Health in Aging:

????Stop what you?re doing and remain still.
????Squeeze your pelvic floor muscles several times without relaxing in between.
????Take deep breaths and relax your body.
????Concentrate on suppressing the urge.
????Remain still until the urge passes.
????Walk at a normal pace to the bathroom while quickly squeezing your pelvic floor muscles.

Helpful lifestyle tips for managing urge incontinence include monitoring fluid intake and diet, avoiding bladder irritants like alcohol and caffeine, keeping a path clear to the bathroom, and wearing clothes and incontinence products that are easy to get on and off. New Homeopathic Products From Hyland?s Inc. Help Families Fight Coughs and Colds Naturally

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) November 02, 2011

Coughs and colds are a fact of life for families. Long trusted for its effective line of 4 Kids pediatric cough and cold products, Hyland?s Inc. has introduced two new homeopathic product lines: one for adults, and one for very young children seeking relief from the symptoms of seasonal illness.

Hyland?s new DEFEND Cold & Cough, DEFEND Cold & Cough Night and DEFEND Sinus, offer multi-symptom relief for adults in natural formulas that are non-drowsy and free from dyes, alcohol and sugar. Hyland's new, 100 percent natural Baby Cough Syrup is specially formulated for infants 6 months and older, to relieve symptoms for a variety of coughs without drowsy or stimulant side effects. Hyland?s family of cough and cold products are available nationally in chain drug stores, pharmacies, grocery stores, and supercenters.

Caring for those affected by seasonal colds can be a real headache for today?s family. Not only can children infect the rest of the household, they are likely to get sick more frequently than adults, and each illness can last for a week or longer. Children average six to eight colds per year, while the average adult catches two to four colds a year, causing approximately 150 million work days to be lost each year(1). Colds aren?t the only problem: sinus infections are estimated to affect as many as 37 million Americans each year, with 40 percent to 85 percent of those affected by common colds showing signs of inflamed sinuses(2).

While many reach for traditional medicines, at least 38 percent of adults use complementary and alternative medicine to treat common illnesses(3). Unlike most traditional over-the-counter (OTC) cold and sinus medicines, all of Hyland?s products are designed to relieve symptoms rather than suppressing them.

Hyland?s new DEFEND line for adults can be used to safely and effectively alleviate common cold and sinus-related symptoms without diphenhydramine, dextromethorphan or phenylephrine. DEFEND Cold & Cough soothes symptoms including nasal congestion, cough, sore throat and sneezing in a non-drowsy liquid formula that is ideal for daytime relief. DEFEND Cold & Cough Night is a liquid formula that is designed to alleviate cold symptoms as well as the occasional sleeplessness that accompanies them. DEFEND Sinus quick-dissolving tablets are specifically formulated to relieve symptoms of sinus pressure, headache, nasal congestion, sinus pain and fever associated with colds or allergies.

Building on the success of Hyland?s Cough Syrup with 100% Natural Honey 4 Kids for children ages 2 to 12 years old, Hyland?s new Baby Cough Syrup offers a solution to parents searching for over-the-counter medicines to ease an infant?s discomfort.

?Following the Food and Drug Administration?s 2008 warning about the safety of some ingredients used in OTC medicines for infant coughs and colds, parents have had few other options to ease their children?s discomfort,? said Amy Fox, vice president of product innovation at Hyland?s. ?Unlike most traditional OTC medicines that suppress symptoms, Hyland?s Baby Cough Syrup alleviates coughs due to colds by stimulating the body?s own defense mechanisms. The medicine itself was formulated specifically to cover the wide range of cold-related coughs, from the tickling cough to the dry cough.?

Hyland?s Baby Cough Syrup is a pleasant-tasting liquid that comes with a dosing syringe for accurate measurement and ease of delivery. It does not contain any aspirin, acetaminophen, ibuprofen, naproxen, pseudoephedrine or dextromethorphan.

?With the addition of the new Hyland?s DEFEND and Baby Cough Syrup products to our tried-and-trusted 4 Kids line of homeopathic remedies, it?s possible to treat the whole family naturally when coughs, colds and sinus problems strike,? said Fox, ?Our products work without contraindications to stimulate the body's natural healing response. It?s a safe and effective first line of defense against seasonal illness, particularly for the moms and dads who get sick when their children bring colds home from school and day care,? she noted.

Hyland?s DEFEND products will be available in Walgreens, Rite Aid, national grocery retailers and natural food stores for a suggested retail price of $ 12.99 each for the DEFEND Cold & Cough, DEFEND Cold & Cough Night and DEFEND Sinus. Hyland?s Baby Cough Syrup is expected to first be available in natural health stores by year end. Beginning in January 2012, Hyland?s Baby Cough Syrup will be available in chain drug stores, pharmacies, grocery stores, and supercenters, along with all Hyland's 4 Kids products. The product is suggested to retail at $ 9.99. For more information call 1-800-624-9659 or visit http://www.hylands.com.
